By end Х1Х of a century Kishinev (Chisinau) already has almost got off image provincial small town and even has got some lustre of the European capital. Wide prospectuses, public gardens and, to the right of the Cathedral, a symbol of the arisen respectability - hotel "London". The business elite of that time which representatives appeared here at after-dinner o'clock became habitues of restaurant of hotel and often stayed before closing. Here music in the evenings played, in separate offices of restaurant businessmen easy discussed the transactions, loose feasts were arranged, the reveller "gold" youth, and in the hot afternoon idle public slowly sipped coffee.
In 1929 on a scene of restaurant of hotel sang great бессарабский chansonnier Peter Leshchenko which name now names one of city streets. Stopped here in 1875 and Hristo Botev - the Bulgarian poet-revolutionary. Then the hotel had other name - "Victoria".
