An easy ring the moniste, the wave of the motley skirt, bewitching sounds of songs, a suit, dances carrying away in circulation and an easy crape of secret long since draw attention to one of the most mysterious people - to rums.
My first children's impression about gipsies is connected not with Moldova, with Crimea. A hot haze over asphalt, we who have languished, but still curious schoolboys, slowly go to the bus. And here because of a corner comes up a cloud of bright magnificent skirts between which half-naked children scurry about. The sharp voices, full indifference to world around and improbable for the middle the eightieth dresses have chained our sights and have forced to stand on a place. And the cloud, and not having paid to us of any attention, has floated by, hardly having parted and again having closed hardly having come for us.
That meeting has for a long time left impression something magic and mysterious, unreal. In whisper of the schoolmates obstinately repeating, that it also would not be desirable to believe not a miracle, and ordinary gipsies who, about, horror, steal children and can maleficiate.
Well, not I one. Show me the person absolutely indifferent to this mysterious nation. Someone admires their art, someone - tries to avoid, someone with ecstasy penetrates into ancient Gipsy legends, and world famous couturiers are not present-is not present, and introduce Gipsy motives in the expensive models.
Actually, the history of the traditional Gipsy dress is very interesting by the uniqueness. Magnificent skirts and wide trousers with which at us the image of rums associates, have appeared rather recently - only in XIX century. Before the traditional suit of gipsies was formed under the influence of clothes of that population among which this or that camp wandered. In the Middle Ages Russian gipsies frequently carried sundresses, Romanian - respected sleeveless jackets, and Uzbek tied scarfs in the form of a turban. United all, perhaps, only passion to ornaments. Modern ethnographers and historians find to it rather reasonable explanation: for the lack of the house, gipsies carried all riches with themselves, all accumulation transformed into gold ornaments, put in purchase of good horses and a harness. Silver was thus used less often, basically for an ornament of bridles and stirrups, sometimes - man's belts. Women intertwined with coins in plaits, carried them in the form of a necklace, sewed along the edges of a scarf. However, it concerned only rich camps, and many families differed such poverty, as coins were not.
Clothes of gipsies influenced not only local population, but also own customs, traditions. For example, on deep conviction of rums, the woman is dirty below a belt. And even in full poverty of the gipsy tried to cover feet though with any rag, and it is better a skirt and an apron. At the same time any gipsy could bare without ceremony a breast for feeding of the child or washing. Moreover, till now gipsies prefer blouses and jackets - so it is more convenient.
Those suits to which we have got used, have appeared from an easy hand of count Orlova. On a legend, however, thoroughly supported with archival sources, in possession of the count the camp of gipsies has come. Servants have started to banish them, but one of rums has suggested to listen to their songs. It was pleasant to the count, he began to invite gipsies to act on house holidays, with pleasure showed to visitors. There was even a term choral gipsies. Eagles also became the author of suits for Gipsy actors - long skirts, shawls, wide belts and sleeves. Suits, by the way, - to gipsies have not liked, they preferred to put on on a city fashion in the European dress. But in due course all has changed, and already in the XX-th century not only actress beginning, but also nomadic gipsies began to carry magnificent skirts and other attributes the present gipsies. Partially the fashion has remained till now. Probably, it is a unique case when the national suit at all that is not, but at the same time has such success and it is so known, that the other nations can envy only.
