In the framework of the Summit of Heads of State of Central Europe, in the Serbian city of Novi Sad, the President of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Voronin met with his Czech counterpart Vaclav Klaus. He also met with the presidents of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano, Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, Austria, Heinz Fischer, Boris Tadic of Serbia and Croatia, Stepan Mesic.
At the meeting, Vladimir Voronin highly appreciated the present stage of relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Czech Republic, noting the intensification in recent years, bilateral cooperation. The President stressed the interest of the Republic of Moldova to the deepening and expansion of multilateral cooperation between the two states in various fields.
The Head of State thanked the Czech authorities for their support of our country in implementing the Euro aspirations of Moldova, including the presidency of the Czech Republic in the EU. The President appreciated the attention paid by the Presidency of the EU the Czech events in the Republic of Moldova after the parliamentary elections 5 April 2009, stressing the importance of the April visit to Chisinau of current Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Mirek Topolanek to unblock the political crisis in our country.
In addition, the President expressed his satisfaction with the impressive volume of trade exchange between the two countries, stressing the importance for the implementation of Moldova Moldovan-Czech investment project to build a power plant in the city of Ungheni.
Vaclav Klaus, in turn, confirmed the very good relations of cooperation and friendship between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Cheshmkoy, expressing the readiness of his country and continue to support Moldova in its efforts to implement the European elections.
Vaclav Klaus stressed the need to strengthen the Moldovan-Czech trade and economic cooperation and development of existing capabilities in this area.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Vladimir Voronin has congratulated the head of the Czech state on his birthday and wished him health and well-being.
