Customs. September 4, 1991 President issued a decree on the supervision of customs agencies in the territory of the Republic of Moldova (at the time the system consisted of the customs Ungeni, Leuseni and internal customs Chisinau). Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin today participated in the ceremonial meeting devoted to the Day of Customs officials. It was attended by executives of the Customs Service, Operations Chief EU Mission to assist in the monitoring of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border (EUBAM) Slawomir Pihor, Presidential Adviser on Economic Affairs Oleg Reidman. In his speech, Vladimir Voronin said that the Day of the Customs Service and 18-th anniversary of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova - an excellent occasion to take stock of this structure, the central public administration. Head of State positively assessed the activities of the national customs system, highlighting the achievements in the process of modernization in accordance with European standards. In this regard, the President welcomed the continuing improvement of customs infrastructure, including through the implementation and maintenance of information system ASYCUDA World, which contributed to a significant increase in functionality of the Customs Service. Vladimir Voronin stressed that the customs system has been improved greatly with the support of the European Union, and the special role played in this mission of the EU to assist in the monitoring of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border (EUBAM). The President thanked all the staff of the Customs Service for work on behalf of the State, as well as responsibility and devotion to duty. At the ceremony, the Day of the Customs Service, the Head of State read out the presidential decree on conferring special rank of Major-General of Customs Director General of the Customs Service Viorel Melnik.
