Parliament yesterday approved a draft resolution under which the presidential election scheduled for October 23, postponed. The decision was made at the request of the Special Commission for the presidential election. The reason for postponement of the elections - there were some ambiguous provisions and gaps in the law on presidential elections. In the legislative forum has 10 days to improve the legislative framework on this issue and 3 days for another appointment date of the first round of elections. To remedy the existing situation, the Special Commission proposed a number of changes and additions to the law on electing the President of the Republic of Moldova.
Thus, should adjust aspects of the order of the special meeting, a quorum, voting, transfer cases, the date of the election. Require legislative evaluation and situations that may arise after the impossibility of electing the president and in connection with the avoidance of the dissolution of Parliament twice a year. "Parliament should regulate all these issues," - said the deputy.
PCRM required to exclude from the agenda the draft law, to recognize the failure of the first round of voting and to hold another election. The Communists are heavily criticized the initiative and demanded that the presidential elections were conducted in strict accordance with applicable law.
Igor Time described the position of the Communists, who demanded within 15 days for a rerun of the election. Otherwise, they argue, justified the dissolution of the legislative forum. Another MP from the PCRM Eugenia Ostapciuc demanded that Marian Lupu has withdrawn his candidacy for president, saying that she has the right to demand it.
To participate in the election of the President of the Republic of Moldova was registered only one candidate - the leader of PDM, Lupu, whereas previously was listed and the second applicant, as provided in the conclusion of the Constitutional Court. For this reason, the representatives of the ruling coalition decided to postpone the voting process, to improve the legislation on the subject. Term of the presidential election ends Nov. 11, 2009.
