One of versions of an origin of the name Kishinev - Chisinau has been stated 125 years ago in Novorossisk a calendar. This version carries the name of the Moldavian capital to old-Moldavian word-combination Chişla nou ă, that the New farm means. Here Turkish Chişla "barrack" means, and in Bessarabia this word designated settlement, farm.
Because of character of formation of the name (one part Turkic, another - Romanian) modern researchers doubt justice of this point of view. Initially топонимы an element «кишенев» meet in documents it come from those territories which have been grasped by Turkis in XV century Therefore some researchers assume, that the city name has not Romance, but a Turkic origin.
They consider, that the word has occurred from половецкого words кишения (kesene), meaning «a burial place, the mausoleum». In many places in which name there was a making part «кишенев», for example, Кишеньки Orzhitsky area of the Poltava area of Ukraine, once there were external signs of ancient burial places - in the form of the mausoleums, monuments and gravestones. Such burials could belong печенегам and to the half-sheep living in Black Sea Coast in the beginning of II millenium AD or the tataro-Mongols who have occupied this edge in XIII century. Archeological excavations testify to existence around modern Kishinev печенежских burials.
Other versions connect the name with Hungarian Kisjen ő - «small Йено» (йено - one of the Hungarian tribes which have come to Europe in 896 year). In the western Romania on border with Hungary there is city Kisjen ő, or Chişineu (en: Chişineu-Cri ş). But the proofs confirming communication in an origin of names of these cities, it is not found.
