For the first time in Moldova has undergone canonizations. The metropolitan Gabriel Benulesku-Bodoni in Kapriyansky Uspensky monastery is canonized.
The metropolitan Gabriel (in the world Grigory Grigoryevich Benulesku-Bodoni was born in 1746 in Bistritsa, Transylvania, I have died in 1821 in Chisinau. Initially I was a bishop as a part of the Constantinople patriarchy, subsequently I have passed under a hand of the Russian orthodox church. I was the metropolitan Ekaterinoslavsky and Hersono-Tavrichesky, Kiev and Galitsky, Chisinau and Hotinsky. Thanks to Benulesku-Bodoni's petition Chisinau became the capital of the Bessarabia region.
Bodoni is a founder of two temples in Tiraspol before revolution — the Pokrovsk edinoverchesky church and the Nikolaev cathedral. Both of them have been destroyed in the 20th century, however, in due time played a role of important spiritual downtowns. At Gabriel's insistance in 1814 the Bessarabia printing house in which the books necessary for church services were printed has been open.
