84 deputies voted today for the amendments to the Moldovan Constitution, in article 125. According to these amendments the Attorney General is now appointed by the president on the proposal of the Superior Council of Prosecutors on the basis of open competition. Prosecutor General is appointed for seven years, non-renewable mandate (used to be the chairman of the Parliament -on the proposal for five years).
According to the elected President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon, appointed public prosecutor should be independent of the person of the oligarchic system. "He has to complete the investigation of cases of theft of the century, about the robbery BEM and a concession the airport, on the secrecy of the vote in the government of stealing loans and grants in a large scale, and other crimes of the regime," - said Igor Dodon. Since today all the candidates for the post were in the leadership of the Prosecutor General the last 7 years, Dodon spoke in favor of re-competition.
