Meeting of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of Moldova Igor Dodon.
\"Moldova – the partner, important for Russia, in the region. Unfortunately, we know that the relations between our countries developed recently not in the best way. Says about it also commodity turnover falling, in recent years it has fallen almost twice.
But I very much expect that your first visit to Russia (it is your first foreign trip as the President) will be a good push for development of our interstate communications in all directions.
Certainly, I and my colleagues – all of us once again congratulate you on election on a post of the President of Moldova and on taking office.\"
In turn, the President of the Republic of Moldova has said:
\"Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich! Dear colleagues!
First, many thanks for congratulations. Thanks for kind words which have sounded at the end of last year and in recent years.
Certainly, I am sure that the new period in our relationship begins. The last seven years, unfortunately, even from the Moldavian strategic documents strategic partnership with the Russian Federation has disappeared. But last year the people of Moldova have voted for the President and have voted for the program of the President. Most of citizens of the Republic of Moldova have voted for maintaining statehood, for a neutrality, for strategic partnership with the Russian Federation, for the solution of the Dnestr question, for preservation of our traditional orthodox values. And we very much hope, and the people of Moldova very much hope that since 2017 we begin a new stage and we will be able to restore strategic partnership in the main directions.
It is the first official visit after my election and the first official visit of the President of Moldova since 2008. Within the last nine years none of heads of the country with official visits have been accepted in the Russian Federation. Therefore most of citizens, all Moldova with attention watches this visit, with great hope for the solution of those questions which at us, certainly, have collected.\"
